Reading Clinches Division Title

Leading 4-0 after four innings on Friday, the Phillies offense was shut down by the Braves bullpen. Tied at 4-4, the Phillies had a runner on second with no outs in the eighth but didn’t score. Atlanta then won it with four runs off the Phillies bullpen in the ninth.

Leading 4-2 after five innings last night, the Phillies offense was again shut down by the Braves bullpen. In four innings, the Phillies got one hit, a lead-off double by Maikel Franco in the bottom of the eighth in a 4-4 game. He didn’t score but Atlanta then won it with two runs off the Phillies bullpen in the 10th.

Bullpen comparison: Atlanta, eight innings, zero runs; Phillies, six innings, seven runs (six earned).

RISP oddity: in Friday’s loss, the Phillies were 2-11. In Atlanta’s win last night, 0-12.

Vince Velasquez pitched well in a no decision, two earned runs in seven innings, no walks, eight strikeouts, 92 pitches, 62 strikes. It was his last start of the season having reached a career-high 131 innings.

Minor League Report
All six Phillies minor league teams will finish the season with winning records. Last time that happened was 1953. Their farm system then consisted of Baltimore, Spokane, Schenectady, Bradford, Pulaski, Mattoon, Salt Lake City, Terre Haute, Granby.

2nd-place Threshers were eliminated from reaching the postseason with a 6-5, 11-inning loss to 1st-place Dunedin. Trailing, 4-3, RF Jiandido Tromp hit a 2-run homer in B8 to give Clearwater the lead. It was his 20 HR, 10 each with Lakewood and Clearwater. Dunedin tied the game in T9 and won it the next inning. The Threshers finished in 2nd place during the 1st half and again in the 2nd half . . . Regular season ends this afternoon in Dunedin, Brandon Leibrandt (3-1).
