Two weeks from tomorrow night (July 31), Pat Burrell will be inducted into the Toyota Wall of Fame. Charlie Manuel, last year’s inductee, will have the honors of formally inducting Pat. Charlie and all living members of the Wall of Fame, except Curt Schilling, will be on hand for the 7 p.m. ceremonies. Schilling is unable to attend because of his ESPN TV committments.
As announced at Tuesday night’s All-Star Game, the fans have spoken in MLB’s poll of the Franchise Four for each big league team.
The Phillies winners were no surprise, four Hall of Famers: Riche Ashburn, Robin Roberts, Steve Carlton and Mike Schmidt. They’ll be recognized on Toyota Alumni Night, Saturday, August 1.
Nine who have worn the Phillies uniform are were chosen for other team’s Franchise Four: Jimmie Foxx (A’s), Roy Halladay (Blue Jays), Ryne Sandberg (Cubs), Schilling (Arizona), Jim Thome (Indians), Jeff Conine (Marlins), Pedro Martinez (Red Sox) and Joe Morgan and Pete Rose (Reds).

SS/2B Jonathan Arauz, GCL Phillies…The 16-year-old hit .429 (9-21) with 2 doubles, 2 triples, 4 RBI, 4 runs scored, a .500 on-base percentage and a .714 slugging percentage in 5 games. Arauz recorded multiple hits in three of those five games. Arauz was signed by the Phillies and Norman Anciani as an amateur free agent on August 7, 2014.
RHP Will Morris, Lakewood…Morris, 22, appeared in two games for the BlueClaws last week and did not allow a run in either of them, 10 total innings, 6 hits, 0 walks, 8 strikeouts. Morris was selected by the Phillies in the 24th round of the 2013 draft out of the College of Southern Nevada.

Threshers pounded Palm Beach, 9-1, behind a 13-hit attack that included 4 home runs: CF Carlos Tocci (1), 1B Rhys Hoskins (12), RF Aaron Brown (5-6). Tocci and Brown, 3 hits each. WP: Matt Imhof (4-3), 5-6-1-1-3-3.

Lost, 3-2, to the Astros. RF Bryan Martelo, 2-3; hitting .310. ND: Ranger Suarez, 4.2-5-2-2-1-4; 2 1st-inning runs broke a 17-inning scoreless streak to start the season, his first in the states; 5 games, 3 starts.

Phillies: claimed RHR Dalier Hinojosa on waivers from Boston and optioned him to Lehigh Valley. He is a 29-year-old Cuban refugee who has pitched three seasons in the Red Sox system.

1952: RHP Robin Roberts wins in Pittsburgh, 8-7. It is his only win of 28 that year in which he did not go distance. RHP Andy Hansen came on to get final two outs. So, Robbie tossed 27 complete games that season. The entire National League has 21 so far this season.
