Bullpen Falters

A quiet offense came up with four runs in the eighth, matching the Phillies biggest inning of the season, but the bullpen couldn’t produce a shutdown inning and the Mets wound up winning, 5-4, in 10 innings last night.

A walk by Giles led to the tying run in the eighth after the Phillies had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the inning.  Going in to their eighth, the Phillies were 1-25 when trailing after seven.

The Mets have won seven straight series over the Phillies and 19 of the last 24 meetings between the two NL East clubs.  Series and road trip ends this afternoon.

No game on Thursday followed by a three-game weekend series vs. the Rockies at Citizens Bank Park.
