Throwing 116 pitchers (90 strikes) in eight innings, he evened his record at 5-5 with the 2-1 win yesterday, his second consecutive 2-1 victory. He fanned 10, including Pence three times. Hunter had been a Phillie-killer in this series. Cole lowered his ERA to 2.72, ninth best in the NL. Of the eight pitchers ahead of him, he has the fewest wins.
It was his first win against an NL west team since 2012 (Rockies).
Pap pitched for the third straight day and got a 1-2-3 save. In three days, he had a blown save, loss and save.
The Phillies avoided being swept for the ninth time this season and avoided two, four-game sweeps at home for the first time since 1972 (Mets/Cardinals).
