Broom Revenge

There’s no question the Phillies are in a spin, like 2-8, as the Braves swept a four-game series, their first in Philadelphia since September of the fateful 1964 season. That sweep was more painful as it was in the midst of a 10-game losing streak that cost the Phillies a pennant.

There’s no question that the offense is stuck in a spin. Want proof? In all 8 losses, with runners in scoring position, a .128 average. That figure is an improvement over the last four games, .094. Yep, .094 as in 3-for-32.

The pitching is doing enough to keep them in games but runs just don’t come.

Other notes from the Braves series:

**Chase collected his 1,500th hit yesterday. Got a nice ovation.

**Andres Blanco was added to the roster yesterday, the 44th player for the
Phillies as we start the second half of the season. That’s the most of any team.

** Yesterday, they out-hit the Braves, 13-7, in losing 3-2. Saturday, first game, out-hit the Braves, 9-7, in losing 10-3.

**Rollins stole his 439th base, moving him into second place on the club’s all-time list ahead of Ed Delahanty. Sliding Billy Hamilton is the leader with 508.

**Everyone is still buzzing about the catch Tom McCarthy made on Friday night, when he broadcast from the stands in left-center. What are the odds that that would happen? Give Tom credit. He brought his ancient first baseman’s mitt to the game just in case.
