Cliff Sparkles

Score three runs in a game Cliff starts and it’s a win for the Phillies. It happened last night at Fenway.

Cliff was once again dominating. Gave up a run in the first inning and then retired 22 of next 23 hitters. No walks for the 77th time in 291 career starts.

The offense produced three runs and Papelbon got a save in his first game back in Boston. Phillies are 8-22 when scoring three or fewer runs. Cliff started four of those eight wins.

For Cliff it was his first win at Fenway Park since his first start there on May 12, 2004. He had lost two in between. Out of 291 starts, last night was only his sixth. Hard to believe.

Domonic, the reigning NL Player of the Week, homered for the second time in two games this week. On this trip, he has 10 RBI. The rest of the team, 14.

Both teams flew (separately) out of Boston after the game for Philadelphia where the series resumes the next two nights. Every other series in the majors also switches sites, a real rarity.

Comment Corner
Thanks to Dennis Orlandini for posting a note that Bob Kuzava celebrated his 90th birthday yesterday. Bob pitched for the Phillies in 1955, one of eight teams during a 12-year career. As Dennis noted, Bob is the sixth nonagenarian among Phillies Alumni. We have no contact information on Bob. If anybody knows his whereabouts, please let us know.

“Dick Allen hits measured 529-foot home run completely over the Coca-Cola billboard atop Connie Mack Stadium’s left-center field roof…”

I was led to believe Ryan Howard would provide a multitude of those majestic homers. Once again I was lied to. Pathetic.

Dave, really sorry you feel this way. That’s no lie.

Right now it looks like BlogEngine is the preferred blogging platform available

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
