Another Boston L

Guess you can say things aren’t going well for the Phillies. Facing Aceves, a pitcher who had given up 18 runs in 18.2 innings, they scored just once in six innings against him. Another interleague loss vs. Boston, the 30th, most against AL teams.

Phillies are 2-6 vs. AL enemies this season. For the Red Sox, it was their first interleague game of the year.

Game 2 tonight and then the same two teams play two more in Citizens Bank Park, Wednesday and Thursday.

Loss evened the Phillies May record at 12-12. Last time they were below .500 this month was 2002 (12-14).

Happy 90th birthday today to former Phillies LHP Bob Kuzava. He becomes the 6th currently living Phillies nonagenarian. He pitched for the Phillies in 1955 in the midst of a 12 year career (1946-1957) that saw him play for 8 teams (Indians, White Sox, Washington Senators, Yankees, Orioles, Phillies, Pirates and Cardinals in that order. He went 49-44, 4.05 ERA, with 114 relief appearences, 99 starts, and in a telling statistic of how the game has changed over the last 65 years, 34 of those starts resulted in Complete Games.
