Going For Sweep

Great starting pitching, solid bullpen, clutch two-out hitting, add on runs….the formula has been missing much of the season but it’s resurfaced in San Francisco where the Phillies go for a sweep of the three-game series this afternoon at AT&T Park.

KK was once again solid, throwing just 88 pitches in his seven innings. The win was his 11th since last August 14, tops in the majors. Adams and Papelbon did their thing in the eighth and ninth innings.

Chase and the Big Piece each provided the long ball marking the 50th time they have gone deep in the same game.

The last 12 Phillies home runs have come with nobody on base . . . Nix had a couple of hits. His 14 hits are now evenly divided between pinch-hitting and starting . . . Papelbon didn’t get a save because the Phillies added a run to the 5-2 score in the ninth. It was the third time in his last four appearances that that has happened.

NL East Standings
Since Atlanta started 12-1: Phillies 10-11, Nationals 9-10, Braves 7-12.
