Scouting World
Marti Wolever and his six top lieutenants are in camp at Carpenter Complex.  This gives them a chance to see the minor league players.  Next week, the Latin America scouting group will spend time here.

Joining Marti, recently promoted to Assistant General Manager, Amateur Scouting, are Mike Ledna and Billy Moore (coordinators) and supervisors Sal Agostinelli (international), Gene Schall (east), Brian Kohlscheen (central) and Darrell Conner (west).

After Clearwater, it is on to non-stop scouting in preparation for the draft that starts June 4.

With the free agent signing of Papelbon, the Phillies lost their first round selection, the 31st overall.  Losing Madson and Ibanez, the Phillies picked up some extra picks.  So, the Phillies enter the draft with the 40th, 60th, 77th and 95 selections over the first two rounds.

Spring Training Memories
Shane Victorino
“2000 as a 19-year-old kid from Hawaii in the fabled Dodgertown over in Vero Beach. It was my first time away from home.  I had always heard about Dodgertown.   All of players were there, minor leaguers and big leaguers and several Alumni.  We stayed in a dorm, four per room.  We all ate in a big dining room along with such stars as Koufax, Wills.  I thought this was the best thing ever.  Had so much fun.  Couldn’t believe I was in same place and playing on the same fields as Jackie Robinson and all the greats.”
