Big 8th

For seven innings, the offense crept along, scoring one run on Tuesday night.  For the second straight game, a Phillies starter had a chance to win his 10th game but the offense produced just one while Cole and Doc were on the mound in those games.

Then came a 43-minute eighth-inning.  Taking advantage of five St. Louis relievers and their wildness (5 walks, 2 hit batters, 90 total pitches), the Phillies scored nine times.  A 2-1 deficit became a laugher.  Stutes wound up with his second big league win, both coming on this six-game journey to Seattle and St. Louis.

Phillies record for the biggest eighth inning came on September 22, 1999 at Milwaukee, 11.
