This Date in Phillies History
1983–The Phillies announced they had purchased a right-handed relief pitcher from their Portland minor league team in the Pacific Coast League.  He was the property of the Seattle Mariners but was on loan to Portland because it was his home town.  Say hello to Larry Andersen.

It cost the Phillies $50,000 to purchase his contract from the Mariners.  Rumor has it the fee was to be paid at $1,000 a year for 50 years….by LA.
