Back Home

Guess seven games in three different time zones wasn’t an issue as the Phillies returned home last night after a 5-2 trip to Denver, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh.

Jayson Werth had a great road trip, hitting .323, 10 hits, 4 homers, 7 RBI.  With Shane Victorino ready to come off the DL tomorrow, it poses an interesting situation for Charlie Manuel: “Who’s in center?”

Shane had a whirlwind rehab hourney last week, extended spring training to Clearwater to Reading to Lehigh Valley.

Padres Next
Phillies caught a break when Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy pitched yesterday in San Diego.  We get Greg Maddux, Chris Yong and Randy Wolf during the three-game series that starts tomorrow night.

Maddux goes for his 350th win tomorrow night.  He has the most career wins (29) and strikeouts (307) against us of any active pitcher.  He’s 1-0 at Citizens Bank Park.

Television Juggling
Because the Flyers and Sixers are in the playoffs, the Phillies games are being moved from Comcast SportsNet to CN8 tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday nights.  Some fans can’t get CN8 and have voiced displeasure at not being able to see our games.

Our contact with CSN stipulates that the Flyers and Sixers get preference during playoff time.

FOX has added the July 12 game against the Diamondbacks at Citizens Bank Park to their Saturday schedule.  Game time will be moved to 3:55 p.m. for the national telecast.

Konstanty Feedback
Appreciate the comments about Jim Konstanty and the Phillies Wall of Fame.  He’s been on the fan ballot on this website and has made it to the final five but this year but he didn’t get enough fan votes to quality for the Special Wall of Fame Committee that selects the winner.

In regards to CN8, the sound quality has been very bad, I thought it might be my connection, but it’s only the Phillies games on CN8 that have the sound problem.

At least you get CN8. As a Verizon Fios subscriber, Comcast keeps their competition from getting the network so I am blacked out. I can not even watch it on because of the black out restrictions. We need a Fox Sports Net in Philly! Comcast is the worst!

The Wall Of Fame selection of finalists should be done as follows:
Fans pick three or four finalists and the Phillies management picks one or two. It would be expected that the management experts study the field of candidates from the beginning of franchise history, through about 20 years prior to the election year.
Fans have short memories and will never vote for players of historical significance that they haven’t seen play. Therefore, you can only expect them to vote for relatively recent players and no one will ever get elected who didn’ tplay in the recent past and retire a short time ago.
The five finalists in this year’selection are a case in point. They are all recent retirees. Someone like Jim Konstanty who played for the Phillies from 1948 to 1954 (over a
half-century ago) will never get elected under the current system. Management or organizeres of the Wall Of Fame election must reserve one slot among the finalists for a player from the distant past. Just as the Basketball and Football Hall Of Fame reserves one or two slots of their 15 finalists for their”Senior Candidates”, the Phillies Wall Of Fame election needs to have at least one guaranteed “Senior Candidate”, who did not play for the Phillies in the recent past (15 or 20 years before the election).
Konstanty and others who played for the Phillies several decades ago are deserving of the honor, but will not be elected under the current system, if fans choose ALL of the final candiates.
